چکیده

The amount of fibrosis in endomyocardial biopsies from 55 patients with aortic stenosis and 42 patients with aortic regurgitaion was measured. Sixty per cent of the patients with aortic stenosis had some degree of fibrosis; the degree of fibrosis correlated strongly with ejection fraction, peak systolic gradient, symptoms of cardiac failure, and mortality. In patients with aortic regurgitation, fibrosis was found in 40 per cent and was never severe. A correlation was found with symptoms of cardiac failure and mortality at follow-up, but not with ejection fraction or degree of regurgitation.

M-mode echocardiographic features of endomyocardial fibrosis.

M-mode echocardiographic findings are described in 21 patients with endomyocardial fibrosis. Features associated with right ventricular endomyocardial fibrosis include: (i) exaggerated motion and thickening of the anterior right ventricular wall; (ii) increased right ventricular end-diastolic dimension; and (iii) paradoxical septal motion. Pericardial effusion (viz an echo-free space behind the...

Correlation Between Aortic Valve Sclerosis and Coronary Artery Disease: A Cross - Sectional Study

Introduction: Aortic valve sclerosisis considered as a manifestation of coronary atherosclerosis. Recent studies demonstrated an association between aortic valve sclerosis and obstructive coronary artery disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluatethe correlation betweenaortic valve sclerosis andobstructive coronary artery disease and the extent of coronary artery disease in patients ho...

T1 values by conservative septal postprocessing approach are superior in relating to the interstitial myocardial fibrosis: findings from patients with severe aortic stenosis

Background Accumulation of diffuse interstitial myocardial fibrosis in severe aortic stenosis relates to left ventricular (LV) functional impairment and determines the postoperative outcome in these patients. T1 mapping has been proposed for non-invasive quantification of diffuse interstitial fibrosis. We examined associations between T1 values and collagen volume fraction from endomyocardial b...

Haemodynamic features of severe endomyocardial fibrosis of right ventricle, including comparison with constrictive pericarditis.

Endomyocardial fibrosis, first described from Uganda by Davies (1948), is a disease of the heart characterized by a fibrosis of the endocardium and subendocardial layers of either the left or right ventricle or both. The fibrosis affects mostly the inflow tracts and the apices of the ventricles, and involvement of the papillary muscles may lead to mitral or tricuspid incompetence. The ventricul...

Impact of myocardial fibrosis in patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis.

BACKGROUND In this prospective follow-up study, the effect of myocardial fibrosis on myocardial performance in symptomatic severe aortic stenosis was investigated, and the impact of fibrosis on clinical outcome after aortic valve replacement (AVR) was estimated. METHODS AND RESULTS Fifty-eight consecutive patients with isolated symptomatic severe aortic stenosis underwent extensive baseline c...
